Holiday home in the ecologically renovated presbytery of Noduwez

The former 18-th century presbytery located on the church square of the idyllic small village of  Noduwez was ecologically transformed into a holiday house for 10 to 12 people, equipped with all modern comfort in an historical setting with a zest of vintage.

La cure is located in a rural environment on the edge of the French—Dutch language barrier,  halfway on the highway from Brussels to Liege. From there you can easily visit the historic cities in the vicinity like Leuven, Tienen, Sint-Truiden, Namur and Wavre.

If you prefer the outdoors, the house is also ideally located for long walks between the expansive fields and meadows or for bike rides ranging from gently sloping to challenging hilly.

The central hall with centuries old flooring was extended towards the surrounding rooms to get a large spacious area connecting the semi-industrial kitchen, the dinging room and the lounge area. This 200 square meter area enjoys floor heating, but you can also light the cosy pellet stove.

The kitchen with view on the front yard and the church square has both an induction- and a ceramic stove,  a large oven, a smaller combi-oven, espresso machine, … and utensils for at least 12.

You can play a bit of pool, hang around in the vintage sofa or watch a movie on our first generation B&O flatscreen, there is even a separate play corner for the smallest.

The ground floor also houses room Jens, a spacious, wheelchair accessible, bed- and bathroom where we discover some old mural paintings.

Upstairs you find another four bedrooms, with extra long double boxspring beds, and each with their own bathrooms.  The rooms all have their own style depending on the discoveries during renovation, some have large oak beams and bridging joist with “saved popular” wood ceilings, others have restored plaster ceiling ornaments.

In the large garden you will find garden chairs and tables, a bench under the big walnut tree and a gas BBQ ready for you to enjoy.

About

We usually respond within 5 hours.

We bought the run-down building from the municipality and gradually discovered its history, hidden behind layers of patchwork. In order to preserve the value of the old building materials and address the moisture and insulation issues, we opted for a thorough ecological renovation.

The upstairs bedrooms are named after our charming Italian builders, who stayed in our building, then 'construction site', for over 1.5 years during this restoration. David's lost little finger while sawing the wood will always leave a lasting impression on us, as will the 'Picasso technique' (floor annexe) of Chef Tripolino and the delicious Sicilian 'cucina' of Mr. Motta, which we were able to enjoy in abundance during this crazy adventure.
During the renovation works, beds, showers and cooking stove moved more than 5 times according to the evolution of the works. You can find a book of the progress of our works at the entrance, with a 'before'-'during' and 'after'. Despite the inevitable remodeling stress, deadlines and Corona period, we are left with warm memories for life!

On the ground floor, we found it important to foresee a wheelchair-friendly room with adapted sanitary facilities, and we were able to preserve the old wall frescoes.

Our wood gnome "Carpentier", reclaimed wood for many finishes and our vintage neighbor Jens came up with many ideas. Pamela gradually found most of the furniture and Christian artifacts you can find around the house.

The pigeons from the "pigeon loft" on the mezzanine floor were replaced by a washing machine and dryer. Here you will also find all the necessary cleaning equipment and an extra toilet.

Gardengnome Carpentier made a cool 'LDB1758-bar' out of recycled wood pallets with the logo based on the ceiling in the living room in commemoration of Laurent Dubois, the priest that was banned during the French Revolution.

At the front of the terrace, apéritifs at dusk come highly recommended. Especially for that purpose, Pamela restored a bench with view on the church square, for when then the sun is in a good mood.
On Thursdays, you can enjoy traditional hamburgers on our doorstep!

Because of the tranquility, the house is not rented to groups of young people and a stay is intended for family, friends or among colleagues.
The organization of student parties, bachelor parties or drinking parties is also prohibited.
